Training
The Training Division of the Shelbyville Police Department is comprised of three Units; General Instructors, Psychomotor Skils Instructors and Field Training Officers. General instructors provide classroom based training while the Psychomotor Skills Instructors provide in the field training. These areas include defensive tactics, firearms and emergency driving courses.
Officers receive training in all state mandated areas every year. The Shelbyville Police Department prides itself on the betterment of each officer by offering the ability to train in multiple areas. Officers can choose areas that interest them and benefit the police department. Such areas may be in Narcotics, Use of Force, Investigations and Interviewing, or Forensics just to name a few. Officers are then sent to the training and return with the training and knowledge to pass on to other officers.
The Shelbyville Police Department currently has several State Certified Instructors and six certified Field Training Officers.
