F.A.C.T. Team

The Fatal Alcohol Crash Team responds to all fatal and potentially fatal, and most serious bodily injury crashes in Shelbyville, regardless of whether drugs or alcohol are involved. We work closely with the Shelby County Sheriff’s F.A.C.T. team if requested for additional resources. Due to our close working relationship, this is reciprocal for both city and county teams.

The team members are trained to treat these particular types of vehicle crashes as crime scenes and to investigate each as a potential homicide.

By using a fatal crash team concept these types of investigations will receive the benefit of the resources that the specialized team members bring to the scene. Each team consists of the following specialists:
Team Leader, Prosecutor or Deputy Prosecutor, a Detective, a Crash Reconstructionist and an Evidence Technician and a Drug Recognition Expert.
HOSTAGE NEGOTIATIONS

The Shelbyville Police Department recognizes the fact that the presence of a highly trained, highly skilled law enforcement tactical team has been shown to substantially reduce the risk of injury or loss of life to citizens, police officers, and suspects and recognizes that a well-managed “team” response to critical incidents most often results in the successful resolution of critical incidents. Therefore, it is the intent of the Shelbyville Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team to provide a carefully selected, highly trained and skilled tactical team as a resource for the Department in responding to and managing critical incidents. It is the mission of the SWAT Team to support the Shelbyville Police Department, and any other law enforcement agency upon authorization, with a tactical team to respond to the critical incidents.
